Mills Day picnic

The 2019 Marine Mills Day picnic.

Marine on St. Croix end of Summer celebration

Summer is winding down, but there’s still time for one last blowout community celebration in the village of Marine on St. Croix. The community picnic will bring together residents and guests for food and music, fun and games at Burris Park on Saturday, Aug. 28, from 4-7 p.m.

This is the 3rd year Marine has hosted its community picnic. Past picnics have had themes – lumberjacks, a white party – but this year’s picnic is just about family-friendly fun for all ages.

Guests are asked to arrive at the park at 4 p.m. with their own tables, chairs, tableware and food. (For safety, please leave 6’ of distance between family groups.) For guests who don’t have food with them, the General Store will be open.

A brief program kicks off the festivity at 4:30 p.m. with a poetry reading by Rosie Peters and a ceremonial log-cutting to commemorate the founding of the village of Marine Mills at this site in 1839.

Dinner begins at 5 p.m., accompanied by music from the instrumental duo, Amaryllis. Then it’s games for children and adults at 6 pm. Win a prize in the three-legged race. Take the cake in a traditional cakewalk. The littlest children always take home a treat at the fishpond. Door prizes are announced at 6:30 p.m.
