As a preschool teacher, my focus is on the success of my students, in preschool and beyond. I have always been proud to recommend Forest Lake schools to families in our community, but with the reductions the district has had to make recently, it is apparent that passing the referendum this fall is absolutely necessary for their continued success.
For my students, I worry about the increase in class sizes, that we will lose great teachers who do amazing work, and especially about the reduction in special education services for students who truly need extra assistance. It is apparent that these changes will negatively impact each and every student in our district. I am also concerned that our activities and athletics, which are very important to the students and community, will suffer without adequate staffing or by becoming too cost prohibitive for students to join.
I know it’s hard to support something that will cost you more money, but your decision on this issue isn’t just about money – this is about our community. Investing in our schools can increase value in our community and make Forest Lake a better place to live.
My preschool students have a lot of school years ahead of them. Please vote yes for them and all our students so they can continue to have successful schools. We have a lot to be proud of in Forest Lake. Let’s be proud of how we support our schools!
