As we get into the heart of election season, I know Minnesotans are researching candidates and deciding who will best represent our community and state. But another important decision that residents will make on the ballot this November is whether or not to approve an operating levy for the Forest Lake Area School District. As a former teacher, a parent and a legislator, I know how important a quality education is for our kids, and I’d encourage voters to take a closer look at how this levy will impact our schools and your taxes.

Our local schools do an outstanding job educating the next generation, and the school district has laid out a clear plan about where additional operating funds will go including making teacher salaries more competitive with neighboring metro area districts, reducing class sizes, enhancing support measures for struggling students, and expanding career, music, college level and elective programs for students. They also plan to improve long-term financial stability for the district.

As your state representative, I am proud to support our schools and champion measures to put more money in every classroom, implement meaningful reforms to improve student learning, and secure additional transportation funding for our school district. Great schools help strengthen communities and make them a wonderful place to live, work and raise a family. That’s why I’d encourage voters to take a closer look at the Forest Lake Area School District operating levy request before casting their vote this November.
