In the next few months, Stillwater residents are going to lose the only independent pharmacy in Stillwater. Lakeview Community Pharmacy is located within Stillwater Medical Group Clinic. The last day of operation is January 20, 2020. No one imagined the community pharmacy would close when Lakeview Health System joined with HealthPartners in 2011.

Lakeview Community Pharmacy was established over 13 years ago in June 2006. The pharmacy manager has worked at the pharmacy since the beginning. The pharmacy staff has served the patients and customers of Stillwater Medical Group Clinic and the surrounding community with compassion and dedication. The health care providers within the clinic appreciate the continuity of care the pharmacy provides.

The pharmacy offers competitive pricing; prescriptions are mailed for free. Delivery is free to senior care facilities in the Stillwater area. Staff delivers prescriptions to patients who are unable to make it to the pharmacy. The pharmacy has access to clinic staff and patient’s medical records that provides accurate and fast service.

The pharmacy is an integral part of Lakeview Patient Prescription Assistance Program, which is used to help low income patients pay for their medications. Thousands of dollars have been raised for the program from the sale of donated items.

The decision to close Lakeview Community Pharmacy is detrimental for Stillwater residents and the surrounding community. After January 20, 2020, the remaining pharmacies in Stillwater will be CVS, Cub, Walmart and Walgreens. Many people have switched from “big box pharmacies” to Lakeview Community Pharmacy because they appreciate the convenience and service the pharmacy provides. The staff greets many patients by name. Customers like the “hometown service”.

Since news of the pharmacy closing, people have asked, “Where will I go? I don’t want to go anywhere but here.”

I encourage residents of Stillwater to speak up about the closing of the pharmacy. Please call, write, or email Lakeview Hospital Administrators, Mayor Ted Kozlowski and your city council members. Tell them we don’t want our independent pharmacy in Stillwater to close. Lakeview Community Pharmacy will be missed.
