Two Scandia veterans were honored with the Quilts of Valor last month. Don Peterson (yellow) who served in the Army during the Korean War, and Tom Welsch (blue), who served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. Both gentlemen had ceremonies at their homes, which were attended by the Forest Lake VFW Post 4210 Color Guard as well as family and friends.

Char Franey, a Quilts of Valor volunteer, presented the handmade quilts that were made volunteers through Minnesota. The purpose of the quilts is to thank veterans for their service and sacrifice in serving the nation as well as to provide comfort and healing to those touched by war.

Scandia Elementary School students read thank you notes; Scandia-Marine Lions presented bouquets of flowers and Dave Rovand (the VFW Chaplain and Color Guard Captain) did a pinning ceremony.

The quilts and thank you notes were shown to the Scandia-Marine Lions at their monthly dinner meeting, where the Lions also learned about the purpose of Quilts of Valor and how the organization honors veterans throughout Minnesota and country.
