Scandia’s planning commission will hold a public hearing August 6 for input on proposed changes to rules governing accessory structures.

The commission is considering an ordinance to amend the city’s development code, (Chapter 2, Section 3.2, Development Standards for Accessory Structures).  The proposed amendment provides for increases in the allowed number and total square footage of accessory structures, removes the minimum lot size requirement for exceptions for historic accessory buildings, and provides similar provisions for location of structures in shoreland and river districts.

Anyone wishing to express their opinion on the proposed amendments will be heard at the public hearing.  Copies of the proposed amendment may be viewed during office hours at the Scandia Community Center, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., except holidays.

The proposed ordinance can be found on the city’s website,; click through to proposed ordinances.
