Overall Staging Map

Ramp closures at Interstate 35 and Highway 97 in Columbus are expected to begin Wednesday, August 14, as crews resurface northbound outside lanes on I-35.

Motorists will encounter a traffic shift on Interstate 35 and ramp closures at Highway 97 in Columbus beginning on Wednesday, August 14, weather permitting.

Beginning at 12:01 a.m. August 14, northbound I-35 traffic between the I-35W/I-35E split and Highway 97 will be shifted west to the recently paved inside lanes and the northbound exit

and entrance ramps at Highway 97 will close, through late September. While the ramps are closed, motorists should follow posted detours to Broadway Avenue/County Road 2 to exit or to access northbound I-35.

The ramp closures are necessary for crews to resurface the northbound outside lanes of I-35, as part of the I-35 North Metro Split project.

Once paving on northbound I-35 begins, crews will start using the movable barrier. The movable barrier will help reduce congestion by adding a lane when and where it's needed most and keep traffic moving during peak travel hours on I-35 and I-35E.  The movable barrier will be used until paving is complete on the northbound lanes in late September.

The I-35 North Metro Split project includes resurfacing the existing pavement from the I-35W/I-35E split to Highway 8; replacing the Highway 97 bridge with a diverging diamond interchange;  replacing the northbound I-35W bridge over I-35E and the westbound Highway 8 bridge over I-35. The project will provide a better ride quality, as well as improve safety and traffic flow at the Highway 97 interchange and is expected to be complete by fall 2019.
