Motorists traveling on Interstate 35 near Highway 8 in Forest Lake will encounter I-35 overnight closures and detours on June 18 and June 19. One direction of I-35 at Highway 8 will close each night, weather permitting.

Beginning at 10 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, southbound I-35 at Highway 8 will be reduced to a single lane of traffic and then close to all traffic at 11 p.m. Motorists will be directed to follow the posted detour to southbound Highway 61, westbound Highway 8 to southbound I-35. The road will reopen at 4 a.m. Wednesday, June 19.

Beginning at 11 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, northbound I-35  at Highway 8 will be reduced to a single lane of traffic and will close to all traffic at midnight. Motorists will be directed to follow the posted detour to eastbound Highway 8, northbound Highway 61 to northbound I-35. The road will reopen at 5 a.m. Thursday, June 20.

The closures are part of the I-35 North Metro Split project and are necessary for crews to set bridge beams for the new Highway 8 bridge over I-35.

The I-35 North Metro Split project includes resurfacing the existing pavement from the I-35W/I-35E split to Highway 8; replacing the Highway 97 bridge with a diverging diamond interchange;  replacing the northbound I-35W bridge over I-35E and the westbound Highway 8 bridge over I-35. The project will provide a better ride quality, as well as improve safety and traffic flow at the Highway 97 interchange. Additional information is available at www.mndot.gov/metro/projects/i35northmetrosplit.

There are several projects along the I-35 corridor this year. Please plan ahead, know your route and check the project website and 511 for updates: www.511mn.org
