May Township residents re-elected Bill Voedisch to the town board yesterday. The longtime board chair defeated challenger Brent Reibel, 328 votes to 214, a 60.5 to 39.5 percent split.
Voter turnout was the highest it’s been in years. Last year, 172 residents voted: 92 for John Adams and 80 for Mitch Otterson. The year before, John Pazlar ran unchallenged, garnering all of the 45 votes that were cast. In 2015, the last time Voedisch and Reibel faced off, a total of 373 cast ballots, 243 for Voedisch and 130 for Reibel.
2019 levy approved
At the annual township meeting following the election, residents approved a 2019 levy of 747,664. The town board had proposed a $746,664 levy, but citizens at the meeting voted to increase the contribution to the Youth Services Bureau from $4,000 to $5,000.
