Ken Sogge won 3rd place in the Most Creative category with his "Spook Express."


The Scandia-Marine Lions and City of Scandia had its first Halloween parade Saturday, Oct. 31. The 21 vehicles in the parade made their way on the 12-mile route through neighborhoods in Scandia and Marine - giving many families the opportunity to enjoy the parade from their front yard. 

Thanks to the generosity of the community, the Lions collected a trailer full of non-perishable food for the food shelf at Elim Lutheran Church, 44 pairs of eyeglasses that will be refurbished and given to those in need throughout the world, and $235 in donations to help local families in need. 

Prizes were awarded in four categories. Within each category, there were three prize levels: 1st ($100), 2nd ($75), and 3rd ($50). The three judges awarded prizes to the following entries in the parade:

2nd - Gammelgarden Museum- Witch Dala Horses

3rd - Ashley Johnson - Just Mummied


1st - Sandy Winegar - S.S. Minnow

2nd - Nicole Peatross - Tractor and Dead Scarecrow

3rd - Alison Johnson - Poplar Hill Dairy Goat Farm 


1st - Andrew and Kim Rice - Rats with Skeleton

2nd - Jane Lamberton - Tractor with Hay Wagon

3rd - Ken Sogge - Spook Express


1st - Paul Huntington - Minion Chalk Racer

2nd - Carol Ann Ahlgren and Mark Mueske - The TOY oh TAH Art Car

3rd - Sandra Elftmann - Faerie Car
