On Saturday, Oct. 31, from 1-2:30 p.m., be a part of a Halloween Car Parade! Drive your decorated car, truck, tractor, or float in a parade that winds itself through Scandia. The parade will make its way through neighborhoods, and on main roads and backroads. The Scandia-Marine Lions will be collecting food for the local food shelf and eyeglasses for its vision program in which they are refurbished and donated to those in need.

Community members who are not in the parade are encouraged to sit in their front yards to watch the car parade as it goes by their homes. Have the kids dress in their costumes and wave as the car parade goes by. (A map will be published on multiple social media sites and websites.) If the parade will not be going by your home, there will be plenty of places along the route to allow for 6’+ in physical distancing.

The parade's last vehicle will be a trailer, and Scandia-Marine Lions and community volunteers will collect food and eyeglasses during the parade. The Lions also will accept cash/check donations for the food shelf at Elim Lutheran Church or the Lions’ local programs, including helping families in need around the holidays. (Please make the check payable to the Scandia-Marine Lions and note in the memo field if it should be used for the food shelf or the Lions’ programs.)

The route will begin on Oren Road North; wind itself through several neighborhoods north of Highway 97, head south on Olinda Trail to the main intersection in town where it will turn left. The parade will go through several neighborhoods south of Highway 97 before it drives past the Scandia Community Center, north on Olinda Trail, and completes its route by the road leading to Scandia Elementary School.

Three winners in three categories will receive prizes for the best theme, most spirited and most creative.

All Halloween Car Parade participants must register by Oct. 23 on https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScnOttkurty1PmVGXCZUg03k_8o04fxYaADZ8M4Ztig-yqcfQ/viewform. Check-in will be from 12-12:45 p.m. at 14363 Oren Road North where there will be Scandia-Marine Lions collecting food and eyeglasses from Car Parade participants as well as passing out small treat bags of prepackaged goodies to those in the Car Parade and car numbers for judging.
