In accordance with a proclamation issued by President Biden, Governor Tim Walz Monday directed all flags at state and federal buildings in Minnesota to be flown at half-staff, effective immediately, until sunset on Friday, February 26, 2021, to remember and honor lives lost due to COVID-19. The President has also asked all to join, remember, and observe a moment of silence at sunset on Monday, February 22, 2021.

“As of this week, during the dark winter of the COVID-19 pandemic, more than 500,000 Americans have died from the virus,” said Governor Walz. “We reflect on these losses and the loved ones left behind, joining states across the nation to lower our flags and observe a moment of silence at sunset as we honor the lives lost due to COVID-19.”

Individuals, businesses, and other organizations also are encouraged to join in lowering their flags to honor those who have lost their lives to COVID-19 and their families.
