Cycling Scandia, a nonprofit organization promoting bicycling in Scandia, has received several grants and gifts to propel the group’s efforts.
The City of Scandia partnered with Cycling Scandia and recently received a $5,000 equipment grant from Living Healthy in Washington County, with support from the Statewide Health Improvement Partnership, Minnesota Department of Health. The $5,000 grant will make possible the purchase of bike racks, a bike fix-it station, a map holder and suggestion box, and automatic door locks at a gathering place. All of these amenities will help make Scandia a destination for cyclists.
With a $1,000 grant from Walmart, the group will pursue signage that alerts vehicles and cyclists to shared roadways, as well as bike racks and security at a gathering place. The application was made in early 2019 in the category “Serving Local Communities” with program focus on public safety.
Federated Co-op CEO Mike McMahon arranged for a donation to Cycling Scandia in amount of $750 to be used for office supplies, vests, brochures, business cards, PO box rental and social media fees.
Additional contributions to Cycling Scandia include a donation from Kelli Carlson for 10% ($500) of the city’s obligation for SHIP grant from the Washington County Health Dept.
Since 2017, others have contributed to Cycling Scandia including: Rajean Moone, Marlys Johnson, Friends of Scandia Parks and Trails, Security State Bank of Marine.
To all of these donors Cycling Scandia says, “Thanks very much!”
